Great ’06 opener
Fished out of Hatteras with Ken, Tillford and Brian, started below the 950 in 35 fathoms and worked the HARD edge (75 to 65 degrees in a boat length) up to the 110 at the 50 fathom curve picked up a pair of gaffers, one YFT and one nice Wahoo. Started to breeze up bad and look very thunderstormy so we picked up at 1:00 and ran in through the 4-5 foot chop.
Great being on the water with Tom Kidwell and crew onboard Tribute. Also great working with Frantic!!!
Great job Lou and crew. Killing me to be at work. Baitmaster baits made them hoo's turn on the wahoo's appetite. Any favorite baits for the day? Did you run a planer? Nice lookin fish, congrats guys. Martin
Martin, it is funny you mention the bait because half of our fish came things other than basic Ballyhoo. The Wahoo came on a split tail mullet rigged on wire (thanks Tim Tammaro for the idea) pulled of the planer rod (number 8 planer) and one of the gaffers came off a Dolphin munchie squid that picked it up as Ken was putting it out. Had a heck of a knock down an run on another split tail mullet rigged on mono but didn't come tight. It was a frustrating day to say the least we were getting our ballyhoo on the Ilanders cut clean in half all day by what we believe were Wahoo as they didn't even pop the release clip we would simply check baits and the Ilanders would come in with half a Ballyhoo. All in all we caught some fish, we threw everything we had at them and had a great season opener. Thanks again to Ken, Tilford and Brian AWESOME DAY!!!

Chumlord 2006 opening day!!!!!
Great day guys. I saw you all out there and waved. I was on Island Girl 40 hatteras. We had 10 or so gaffers and 10 good size bailers. Had one tuna bite but our prized angler let it go. heheheh.
We saw you out there Lou. I was on the "Jack Attack" with Jack Rhodes, Robert Bosley and Troy. We started at the 925 and wound up at the Rockpile in the PM. Not really our day but we scrapped out a BLT, a couple of nice Kings and an an albie. (Your short bites may have been Kings) Missed our shot on a big Wahoo as he took our left longrigger and jumped off a big dolphin. That mullet on a trap will catch you a nice fish all right. Nice Pix.
