With Memorial Day approaching we're thinking of having a pig roast for the weekend. Have done it before but not in this area, so can someone tell me where I can purchase a 50-70 lb pig for a rotisserie style pig roast?
I'd prefer that the pig be dressed with the hair singed off.
What do you think I should expect to pay?
We're in South Gloucester county near the Coleman Bridge.
I know of a >175 pounder wandering around another thread in a thong [grin]. JUST KIDDING!
For our post-Labor Day dock parties we have gotten pigs from Central Meats on Kempsville Road in Chesapeake. Their number is 757-547-2161. I am unsure of the cost as I was not in on that side of the event.
In the past we would cook a whole pig because its fun cooking the whole thing. Last couple of times we went with butts and shoulders and its alot quicker, easier to keep, less wast and are easier to find. Just my 2cents.
Mr. Bruce at Miss Piggy Farm in Ashland . He heas great prices and the biggest I've gotten was 179 lbs. He does a great job dressing it with the head on or off.

I rather get two small 'sucking pigs' than one large. The small has less or no fat and you can just about eat the hole thing without any waist.
Have a blast!

if you can eat a whole pig..i'm sure you got plenty of waist![grin]
It'll be a little bit of a drive but we use Sessom's Packing in Ahoskie NC. Bought a 98 lb pig for about $100.00 .........ph#252-332-2978 we have bought 2 pigs from there and will be returning on July 4th weekend for another.
We have whole pigs at the lowest prices the market will allow here at Burks Farm. Check out our web sight at www.burksfarmva.com and see all the services we supply.
