    Default Upper Potomac

So I headed to the famed Upper Potomac for some afternoon fishing yesterday with m yguest for the day. We started out at Pennyfield Lock. The water was bathtub warm and, at the most, waistdeep all the way to Virginia side. We managed a few sunnies and a small smallmouth between us.

At 5:30 we loaded up and headed to Violettes. I have never seen that section of water so clear in beautiful in all my years. I could stand in the pools up to 6 feet and see the bottom clear as day. Unbelievalble water clarity. The sunnies cooperated with probably 50 fish brought to hand between us. The whole time, my guest kept mentioning he wish he had a river this nice close to him in Eugene, OR. A couple of smallies between us at this stop too and it was time to load up and take him back .

The Potomac is fishing beautifully right now for panfish. He was abosulutely amazed at how beautiful this area is for fishing and all I did was take him to a quick afternoon hole.

Now that's a nice tale, of some good fishing, but what did you give your Oregon guest to smoke? I don't mean to take anything away from the Potomac, which is truly fine, but the McKenzie and Willamette near Eugene are glorious rivers, and full of trout and other good fish, and there are tons of streams in the Cascades and the coast range that are fine as well.
