Washington Caynon Saturday
fished on Canyon Dreams (26 ft Glacier Bay) with Jim (Canyon Dreams), his dad Gary & Mark(Canyon Dreams 2). As you have heard, Uncle NOAA screwed the pooch on Saturday.
3 Goals today--catch Gary (Jim's dad) a tuna, catch Jim a white marlin, and find some dolphin(fish) so that we can get in the water with the snorkel/mask & swim w/them.
lines in at the 26830/41750 & worked SE. had 3 tuna bites, all spreader bars, all in 50 fathoms. caught 2. Gary caught the first, Mark the 2nd. goal #1 complete.
let's go marlin fishing. work our way out towards the washington, changing out the spread, including one of mine & Jim's favorites---pink Islander Express w/horse ballyhoo.
26780/41825 pink express comes crashing down--nothing there. scanning baits, whitey pops up on left long. Jim hesitated so I snaked his fish--hooked up. out of gear, begin to clear, whitey #2 comes up behind the left flat--Mark hooks him up. 2 on. as he is feeding his fish, whitey #3 pops up behind the pink express--would not eat. we clear & work to both fish, catchin, boating, photographing both & getting measurements on one. both fish were hot in the boat, so we did what we could, then got each one revived & released swimming well. each fish would have gone 72-75 lbs. nice whites. goal #2 accomplished (sort of--sorry Jim)
kept trolling, went by a ball--out comes whitey #4. takes 2 shots at the left teaser (squid daisy chain) & fades away. did not get a good shot at 'em.
make our way over to the next ball & pull off 2 bailers on the troll. boat them, clear & work over to bail them. find a cooperative school, so Mark gets the gear on & in the water he goes. swimming with the fishes. bail a few, releasing most of them, keeping a few of the bigger bailers. Jim & I each took turns as well. kool experience. Mark spotted a big critter under the bailers, but it swam away pretty quickly. goal #3 accomplised.
*note--the stripteaser was on the side of the pink express. can't say it was one or the other that raised the fish, but they do work. if you don't have one & you want to catch whites--buy a strip teaser.
2 for 3 on yft (30 & 45 lbs)
2 for 4 on whites
7 dolphin, more released
swam with the fishes
Mark has the camera, will post pics when we get 'em
**bite has been moving down the line. Sat--best was 42000 40 fathoms. Sunday--42050 to 41950, 40 fathoms. on sat, best around the washington was 41825 to 41775, 50 fathoms. after the blow, I would start no higher than the 42000 line, 40 fathoms
Washington Caynon Saturday
NICE GOING ON THE BILLS. WE THOUGHT ABOUT RUNNING DEEP FOR A BILL IN THE AFTERNOON. HAD TO GET BACK & CLEAN FISH. THE GREAT THING ABOUT BILL FISHING, LESS FISH TO CLEAN.
