South River

Tomytek picked me up Sunday at 6:00am (extra sleep) and off we went to the South River. We were at the ramp in ½ hour in Ramsey Lake with the wind blowing at 10 mph from the south. I should have told Tommy about the cloud that follows me every where I go because I put my crutch in the rod holder and in less than 5 minutes it was snagged on a piling and bent!! This was the beginning of what would be an expensive day. We headed to the mouth of Shelby Bay laid the 1000 feet of lock tight snood line In 8-16 of water. I attached the buoy to the anchor and upon release they both went to the bottom.
“Not to worry we’ll pull the line back in a couple of runs” I told Tommy so the buoy would be visible. With the wind it made for taught running but in a couple hours we had about 5 dozen crabs with 3 dozen of them being nice jimmies. As the wind began to increase I suggested we relocate to the lea side, We retrieved the line only to find the anchor and buoy gone MY Fault!!
Tommy remembered he had another anchor and buoy, good thing as a trip to West Marine in Edgewater would be time consuming. Off we went to the south cove only to find 3 boats in there. I suggested we lay on the channel edge so as not to impede boat traffic. While laying the line my bad luck must have rubbed off on Tommy as I heard a splash only to see Tommy watching as his poor mans power trim sank in 10 feet of water.
Had it been me I would have called it a day at this point but Tommy endured and over the next 3 hours we managed another 5 dozen with 31/2 dozen being good males. With the tide beginning to come in we decided to call it a day.
I enjoyed spending a day on the water with a young man who truly enjoys fishing and crabbing and a supper personality.

I've had plenty of those days myself, and they are no fun. The bright side is the catch, and the good eating later on. Cheers!

Dale,
I had a great time crabbing with you yesterday. I learned a lot from you. Thank you for sharing where you spots are. I will definitely use them in the future. Also, thanks for not mention the numerous times I wrapped my line in the prop. I blame that on the wind though [wink]. It was a privilege and an honor to have spent a day crabbing with you. You will always be welcome on my boat. I look forward to our next trip.
