Too rough at OC so I went to try to find a friend's anchor. He put me almost on top of it.[smile]The water is only 10-15' deep but for once I had some viz.-almost 5'.Up here that is great.Lots of big granite rocks with nocks/crannies.Saw some big crabs and a few oyster toads.Found an almost new 22lb plow anchor ($190.00) and floated it up.Lot of old bottles -I guess from the long ago lighthouse keeper.Took one to clean up as a prize. As always alot of fishing line but I could see to avoid it.Neat where the boulders met the sandy bottom-empty shells from the rays feeding on clams.Fun easy dive. Cool. Let me know the next time you do something like that and wouldn't mind me joining you. I always like to get in the water and get some practice, with or without the speargun.

That's the best diving in the world, Skip....the diving you can get to. Ever try spearfishing for flounder n Eastern Bay? I haven't, but you dive the Bay and know a thing or two about fish. I think flounder spearfishing is legal in the Bay.

Oyster season is here. Might be a good place to start.

Gotta juggle 4 kids and a wife schedules. Will let you know, Mako. Eastern Bay viz is best in the fall after several days of no rain and a light westerly. I know a captain who takes recreational oyster divers out of Kent Island. Mostly scuba, but depths are <20' so you could try freediving if you wanted. Viz usually makes that tough, but with a float and floatline to your bag you'd have a chance and a lot of fun, I think. No reason you couldn't try spearing flounder on one of those trips that I know of. Will send you contact info. I haven't done an oyster dive in years, but it's easy diving. I bet any commercial guy would take divers out on Sunday for flounder, as oystering is not legal, or at least used to be not legal then.

I'd rather wait until you went, actually, than be the lone man out freediving for flounder when everyone else is dragging for oyster! I like to have a buddy when diving too, all the better if that's someone I trust

When there's a dry spell this fall sometime we can go if you're down for it.

I kayak fish and been to Sandy Point Light house. Depth around the light house seems to be over 20 feet. Was my depth finder wrong?
