Doea anybody have a clue where i can find a bass. I live near patapsco valley state park and the only thing i catch are two inch smallies. The only experiance ive had is from the pond near my beach house and i go there about twice a year.

There are plenty of places to catch bass. Do you have a boat?

In Howard County, you can catch bass in any of the lakes in Columbia. Centennial, Elkhorn, Wilde, Kitamaqundi, all have plenty of bass in them.

In Carroll County, you can fish Piney Run Lake.

All the tidal rivers of the bay have bass in them, if you go far enough up river.

If you have a boat, you can try any of the Baltimore area reservoirs, although there are restrictions on them, and you need a special permit.

It's nice to have a boat to fish the area reservoirs, but if you don't have one, you can catch bass from shore in most area ponds and lakes.

Sure a kayak counts. Plenty of people use them at Centennial. Centennial has a lot of bass in it. There are a ton of small largemouth in there, but there are some good one's too. Lots of weeds, so be sure to take appropriate lures. We have done well lately with strike king zulu's, texas rigged with no weight. Fish them on top of and around the weeds.

If your not catching fish, consider the following:

Do you have servicable equipment ? Now a days you can get a nice fresh water fast action bass fishing rod and multi bearing reel for $70. Do you have good light line ? I recommend 8lb
mono.. Buy excel from BPS and get two miles of it for 8 bucks.
Put the line on the right way so that the line doesn't kink up.

Do you have a complement of the proper lures ? Do you have
three grubs and jig heads, a couple servicable spinner bait (white, green etc)? Do you have a couple of inline spinngers ? Super vibrax #2 or #3 or Mepps of the same size, undressed will work well as the water cools.

Do you have a couple floating diver lures ? Four inch rapala, rebel long A, are several possibilities.

Watch what others are doing at the lakes and ponds of Columbia, Ellicot City, the Patapsco. Smallmouth bass are a humbling quarry. Look for deep areas of the river. Fish a grub or weedless senko style worm deep for big smallies.

Practice, Practice, Practice! All the spots listed above have plenty of bass. All it takes is time on the water and patience.

You are in the right spot for sure. There are plenty of big smallies in the Patapsco. However, stealth is the key especially when the water is clear. Long accurate casts with big baits are in order. Aggressive retrieves often trigger a bite. You'll likely not see 'em as they will be will hidden under the larger rocks in the larger slower pools. Good Luck!
