Earl Scruggs was the man. A lot of peolpe can pick fast, however, his tunes were all so unique and had so much style and character. He is one of my favs RIP
I know a lot of good banjo players. Most have three things in common. 1. Inbred 2. Broke 3. Want to sound like Earl Scruggs.
I never got to play with Scruggs, but I talked to him on several occasions. A lot of people don't know that he was as good on guitar as banjo. If you listen to any of the old Flatt & Scruggs gospel recordings you'll hear him finger-picking guitar. It's as clear and tasty as it gets. Here he is playing Jimmie Brown.
I had him sign a Martin D-28 once. He's the only person I've ever asked to sign an instrument. That guitar is played by my boys now and affectionately known as "Earl."
I could jig to Earl Scruggs all day long! Thanks for the music clips and RIP Earl!...................Gary
