Before the bad weather came in, fishing was great, with some nice bill fish, wahoo, yellow fin tuna and kings. Inshore, the standard flounder, drum and trout were caught. The king mackeral bite has started to pick up not too far off the beach. A decent number of late year billfish were caught in the past week as well. Offshore, there are are still a lot of nice tuna being caught. Other fare caught offshore includes wahoo, mahi, marlin and a variety of bottom fish. Inshore, the big drum fishing is heating up along with speckled trout, flounder and bluefish. Fishing throughout the fall should be spectacular as the weather holds up. The brutal North East wind has set in now and keeping many boats at the docks. Keep an eye on the weather to see when its OK to head back out. Offshore, the the standard fare of black fin and yellowfin tuna, wahoo, dolphin, and bottom fish. The weather improved yesterday and a few boats made it out of the dock. Inshore anglers were catching a lot of nice red drum, along with tailor blues and a few flounder. Offshore, anglers have been picking up a variety of billfish, yellowfin tuna, some dolphin and a few wahoos. Hurricane Bill is coming in now and will put a damper on fishing for a while though, with high seas and winds. Be sure to watch the forecasts to see when it will be safe to go out again. You should expect the standard summer fare after the storm, with billfish and some tuna offshore, reds, specks, flounder and blues inshore. The Pirates Cove Billfish tournament was this past week and the Sea Toy took home first place. Lots of big billfish caught and most released for this tournament. The wahoo bite has also picked up over the last week. Deep droppers are still picking up the standard fare of sea bass and triggerfish. Inshore, there have still been a few cobia catches, along with big sized drum, speckled trout, flounder and bluefish. Best of luck on the water!Read More... Rough winds have kept smaller boats on their trailers, but those who made it out in the sound and offshore had nice catches. A few huge Wahoo were caught offshore, along with a bunch of yellow fin tuna. Several billfish were caught and released off the NC coast. Inshore, triggerfish, trout, and drum were the main catches. Offshore, anglers are still picking up a good number of large tuna and dolphin along with billfish. Inshore, red drum, triggerfish and speckled trout have been the common catches along with bluefish and spanish mackerel. There are also still a few cobia around.
