i'm really into fishing these things they catch friggin everything....i've found when i go offshore especially bottomfishing its really the only thing i want to fish....was wondering if anyone had played around with fishing a wire trace with them....wondering what connection they have been using....because i put soo much drag on these fish (thanks to the butterfly system) i need a super strong connection...was thinking about a small solid ring used from the jigs or an albright knot.....what yall think!
We ues the PR knot. Actualy more like a lot of windings instead of a knot. 100 lb leader, mono or floro. The floro jumps off spinners real bad though. (I use conventionl mostly) I have a few assist hooks on wire and sometimes run 12-18" off the top and tie it to the leader with an albright. Use 49str instead of single. Single will kink and break with the jigging action. Have lost a few jigs each trip to cutoffs. We have monster cudas down here. Nothing for them to take a 30 lb Aj off. One of the boys that fishes down here had a 40 lb hoo earlier this month. I have been fishing more knife style jigs recently, drift tune and magamasa's. The Braid Hammer longs are good too and more affordable. Before I started using the PR I used an albright, or a bimini to albright. I have been working off the same leader and PR knot for four trips now. I start with 20' and work down to about 6 and re-tie. The knot doesn't break even if you hang. I have PE8 (80lb) on a Torsa 30 and PE6 (55lb) on a Trinidad 16N.
