    North Carolina saltwater fishing reports march 7 2013Immense bluefin tuna of 275 pounds to 600 pounds were caught this week. Offshore anglers out of Hatteras have reported catching blackfin tuna recently at the 230 Rocks and other locations.

    Weather, especially wind, is the wild card this time of year. There are typically fish to be caught offshore in March, and even a few inshore, on those calmer days when anglers can get out to them.

    Yellowfin and massive bluefin tuna, dolphin, wahoo and king mackerel are prized catches for anglers who run offshore on those few days with little wind that occasionally pop up in March. Offshore bottom fishermen hook up with snapper and grouper this month.
    Closer to shore, speckled trout, striped bass, red drum and sheepshead can be caught by anglers willing to brave the elements and put in the time searching and fishing for them. In addition to the surf, fish for these species on bridge pilings, around barrier islands, and on other forms of structure.

    Looking on the bright side, Daylight Savings Time kicks in again Sunday, and the official beginning of spring is less than two weeks away! Better fishing will begin very soon!

    Wintertime excitement at the 230 Rocks! Dedicated TidalFish poster jzd reported an outstanding catch including 12 blackfin tuna to 21 pounds for a total of 180 pounds of tuna! "Alberts were thicker than I've ever seen them. Sharks were a problem, but not too bad to leave." Great catch guys!

    TW's Bait & Tackle

    According to TW's Bait & Tackle, "Oregon Inlet Fishing Center reported three bluefin caught and released. Pirate"s Cove brought a few back to the docks yesterday. They also had an inshore boat bringing in a dozen nice size rockfish." A behemoth bluefin of about 600
    pounds was caught and released by a boat out of Pirate's Cove this week.
