Fishing Fly Fishing How to Fishing and Fishing Reports at Tidal Fish - Opening Day of Maryland’s Rockfish Season
  • Opening Day of Maryland’s Rockfish Season

Opening day of rockfish season in Maryland’s portion of the Chesapeake Bay starts this Saturday April 19, 2014 at 5am. The forecast is calling for a decent breeze with winds out of the North West at 10-15kts with gusts to 20 knots under partly sunny ski with highs up to 65 degrees. Sounds like a decent weather to get out there and catch some fish and you can bet Tidal Fishers will be out in full force searching for that trophy striper.

As the tradition continues the Boat Yard Bar and Grill in Annapolis, MD will have the opening day Rockfish catch and release fishing tournament. I am not sure if there are still any slots open, but you can check things out at the link here for Annapolis Fishing Tournament information. The tournament is a fun time as well as the party Dick and his crew at the Boat Yard put on after with good food, spirits, and live music. If you make your way into the bar area you might even get wind of some fishing tales about the one that got away earlier in the day and could have won it. The winner gets his/her name in the rafters of the bar area along with past winners.

A quick fishing report from fellow Tidal Fisher stripeddreams indicates that there are some trophy stripers willing and able to eat some lures. Stripeddreams took a “new guy” out in search of his first ever striper this week. They launched, headed to the Bloody Point area and dropped over their rigs. Not too long later a rod pops and sure enough the new guy is hooked up with what looks like a beauty. After a brief fight stripeddreams landed the fish and it was a 42” brute. The “new guy” was pumped! They put the lines back in and about a half hour later another rod pops, new guy is getting the hang of things and lands a nice 40 incher. They had some more action, not nothing huge. Pictured is “new guy” with his first striped bass. Way to go man, pretty work!)

With the start of opening day the fishing report section on Tidal Fish will commence for the season will weekly fishing reports for Maryland and Virginia will start. You will be able to check them out each week from the Tidal Fish homepage.

If you get out there this weekend, good luck, be safe, and catch’m up!
