North Carolina Fishing Reports

The fishing this week started out on the slow side, but as the weather improved and the seas calmed, the fishing picked up very nicely going into the weekend.This time of the year the weather is still a little unsettled, and it was no different at the beginning of the week. Captains had to call off a few trips due to a blow that came through.

Some rare catches were made this week for being so early, which is a nice sign of things to come. There were several reports of Big Eye tunas being landed by a few lucky anglers on both charters and private boats. These fish weighed in from 82lbs up to an impressive 156lbs. Big Eye's are most commonly found in the waters of OI starting around July, so it's a treat to see these catches being made this time of year. A lady angler from TF had an impressive catch of a Big Eye tipping the scales at 82lbs, way to go Susan. These fish were caught while anglers were targeting YFT south of the point.
