Holy Hershey Bar! I thought the guy up here did well selling fillets at $10, but you have him beat hands down.

OK, I should be more specific: during an open commercial season, what is an average price, or range, for unfilleted rockfish that a waterman can expect to get? I understand that it might fluctuate, even widely, based on any number of factors.

Call whatever places buy them in your area and ask, they will normally tell you the current prices over the telephone.

This is from last year, FWIW...

The group's point, rather, was to reassure the public that rockfish is safe to eat and to calm marketplace jitters, which have sent the wholesale price of rockfish tumbling from $2.60 to $1.50 a pound in two weeks, industry officials say.

During the gill net & pound net seasons they get about $1.50 per pound, whole. During the H & L season, they can get $8.00 per pound filleted.

If all fish were caught H & L they would realize more money per pound because the market wouldn't be flooded.

Reds, I wouldn't expect anyone to H & L Stripers in February. I would think June 1 to December 15th would be a pretty good season.

Hook and line is open in Va right now and they are bringing about $3 per pound for a whole fish. That's pretty good. Net season is usually $2.75 at best and can get as low as 75 cents a pound if every one is hitting them hard.
