Seems like a lot of BS excuses from the MSSA. "Had a bad year in 2017" amongst others.

No excuse for that. The money had to be used for something else. Not good. This just hurts the good folks at the chapter level......... Gary
WOW one has to wonder if anything illegal happened! Maybe there is a need to break out the polygraphs for event organizers.
There is plenty of incentive to cheat and steal with a lot of $$ on the table when rec fishing is _commercialized_ by big $ tournaments.
A good example is the White Marlin tournament results in recent years.

I thought all prize money was guaranteed. Is it being said that no one has been paid for any of the tourneys? If that is the case the state should revoke their permits to hold tournaments until those participants are paid. How much money are we talking? I’d imagine it’s way up there. I sure hope it gets resolved and the winners are compensated.
This is just obsurd. The winner(s) should be paid immediately barring any legal issues. Who in the hell would even be interested in fishing a tournament that you can't collect your "guaranteed" prize money in if you win?
Sounds like the financing officers and/or some of the top members in the MSSA need to be challenged.
I spoke to Dave Smith - executive director of MSSA.
The delay was caused by a dispute of one of the money winners. This had to be settled before any checks were sent out.
The other delay was in getting completed W-9 forms from winners - without this form - no check could be sent out.
No one is happy how long it took - and steps are being taken to help prevent it in future.
One bright side - winners will receive money in 2018 - likely keep more of it due to new tax laws.
They say that life's a carousel - spinning fast, you've got to ride it well.
Smells "fishy".
This may be the most riveting thread of the 2017-18 winter season.
