    Default Fish kill being investigated

Looks like our phone calls about fish kill got some attention. Investigation going on to find out what killed all the Menhaden from Key Bridge to Bloody Point starting Friday ( 4/12 ).

Almost safe to say it was not a pound net that spilled them - far too wide spread - not to mention Menhaden are worth money to a netter.

One thing I read from MD Dept. of Environment - no other fish are being reported. This might point to disease more than some type of pollution / spill / sewage / run off.

A series of localized fish kills in the midsection of the Bay has Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) leaders scratching their heads.
MDE says hundreds of Atlantic menhaden between eight and 11 inches have washed up since early last week.

MDE is investigating individual fish kills at Quiet Waters Park on the South River, the Severn River above Round Bay, Terrapin Park near the mouth of the Chester River on Kent Island, and the Patapsco River from the Key Bridge to Fort McHenry.

If you are out and see dead fish - please call it in. More info the MDE gets - the better.

During Normal Work Hours: All incoming fish kill reports should be directed to the Maryland Department of the Environment's Fish Kill Investigation Section (443-482-2731) or (800-285-8195)
During Evenings, Weekends and Holidays: Calls should be directed to The Chesapeake Bay Safety and Environmental Hotline (1-877-224-7229) or MEMA (1-866-633-4686). The dispatcher then immediately contacts the on call Duty Biologist from the MDE Fish Kill Response Program

We use to swim in Eastern Bay all Summer in the late 50's. I would not jump in the bay now if I was on fire.......Gary

I heard this went well into VA too. Maybe pollution but could be temp change, salinity level, Omega's new fishing technique, or cow farts. Hard to tell.

A friend of mine was at a fishing club meeting in Rock Hall last night. A DNR rep was there and stated that the fish kill was related to a ship and a spill or dump from the ship.

MDE reports two small fish kills - around 50-100 Menhaden were due to fish swimming into a shallow area and getting stuck by falling tide.

No report yet on the larger fish kills in main bay.

people who want to preserve their right to kill and sell marine wildlife for profit are the same ones who denounce the bay for being so polluted fish can't survive

    Can't have it both ways
