The bite for drum has been hot at the southern end of Assateague in the surf for a couple of weeks now. These are primarily pups. The bite for the biggies is at Cape Charles. Check with Chris’ Bait and TacklE bEfore making the trip. It is not unusual for the drum to sort of bypass Cape Charles and head right up the bay to Stone Rock near the Choptank. Another hot spot a little later is Tilghman Pt. In Eastern Bay.
They do light up a fishfinder.

May worms are out in full force. First time in a few years, the Rock will have lockjaw unless you match the hatch right now.
Drag hoses deep or get some worm brellas.

Typical bay weight would be 4-8 oz.. Bait with soft crab, peeler or surf clam. These fish are big, 30_-80 pounds and typically hold on a hard bottom in 18-25'..........Gary
Thanks! I rarely if ever go out with live bait so will have to think on that. Indeed it was about 20' but a pretty soft bottom.

That's usually the first thing that's brought up this time of the year as the reason for a slow bite. I'm surprised it wasn't brought up first.

I guess a general lack of stripers and a hot catfish bite is the new normal!
