The 2019 Northeast Striped Bass Study
Awesome initiative to help to better understand Striped Bass in the North East! Never has this been done before. Stripers are undergoing a possible regulation change to recreational angling with new management. Better data needs to be had. This will give true data about where adult spawning stripers actual migrate to, what depths they live, what temps they prefer. This data to help improve this important fishery.
On May 21, 2019 a trophy-hunting team comprised of staff from the nonprofit GrayFishTag Research (GFR), Navionics and The Fisherman - with help from NJ and NY fishing crews from Fin Chasers and Rocket Charters - deployed a pair of satellite tags in two post-spawn Hudson River striped bass. These Wildlife Computer MiniPAT devices will track the large-scale movements and behavior of these fish we named Liberty and Freedom through October 21, 2019, at which point the tags will float to the surface and relay summaries of the stored data via Argos Satellites back to the folks at Gray. Check out this onboard video of the day's action produced by The Fisherman's Mike Caruso. http://www.thefisherman.com/index.cf...HX_-Cpre4BSlX0

When a was a kid in the 60s I would hang out at Tochtermans and some other bait stores long gone and listen to the old guys come in and tell the fish tales from the 20s thru the 50s. I wish video was around then because you just can't fathom how alive this Bay was back then. Not just Rock. Huge Sea Trout mega Croaker. When they talked about quanities the word trash can and filled up was used frequently.
