    Default Fish identification please.

Hello all! I was fishing around my dock this afternoon trying to catch some white perch but all I got is this fish below, I have no idea what type it is even after looking the DNR fish identification page. I was catching them every cast and there were no white perch at all at my dock this year. They were rather small ( 5-10) inches. Thanks I’m advance. Tommy

We use to catch them in FL. but I can't remember what we called them. I think some kind of trout. Maybe.

I looks similar to that Andy but the fins are bright yellow and makes noises like croakers, I believe its a silver perch in some of the google picture, but than there's also silver perch pictures online that are big and black.

Tommy, Silver perch are not protected or regulated by MD Fisheries. White perch will turn big and black also sometimes called black backs as they mature. The only perch that has a size limit and creel is a yellow perch. Comms not using hook and line have an 8" limit on white perch. Cobia were not in MD regs a few years ago but since they have moved in MD waters recently, MD has just adopted VAregs on them. The fishery is changing...... Gary

Silver perch has soft top spine and mostly caught in brackish waters. They make great shark bait BTW.
