Checkered garter snake....... Gary
Looks like a Garter snake - harmless.
They say that life's a carousel - spinning fast, you've got to ride it well.
Agree it is a garter snake, and that species has variable coloration so different individuals may not look exactly alike.
Garter snakes were named because the pattern resembled garters that were used to hold up men's socks when such garments were worn several hundred years ago.
Looks like a dead one......
We have a large (about 30" long and thicker than a fat thumb) mature female that lives somewhere around our house. Could be under the deck or maybe the shed. Last time I saw her was back in the spring. Now we have a bunch of little ones slithering through the garden beds. This one came into the garage the other day.
Road pizza of the garter variety.
Thanks for the ID. My wife saw it on the road while walking the dog.
