    Default Yellow Perch

A slow start but it's a start All this talk about yellow perch got me hungry for a fresh yellow perch lunch today so I stepped out to try to catch a few real quick. Got two barely keepers for the frying pan today. 9-10 in. DSCF0088 (1).JPG They were both males. When I measured the smaller one it was 9 in. when I first caught it. I measured it again when I cleaned it and it was just shy of 9 in. Moral of story. If you keep a 9in. perch, it will shrink in cold dry air.

There is no doubt in my mind that cold water fish tastes the best and nothing is better than swimming in the morning and in your belly at noon is epic. My Son caught a 19 1/2" striper Sunday and we threw it back. They definitely shrink in the cooler....... Gary

Can’t resist. There are other things that shrink when subject to the cold. A little winter time humor. Marry Christmas.

Glad to see them starting to show. Hoping to catch some this year on the Magothy.

Hard to believe a 9” fish lost a 1/2” or more.

Never, ever keep a fish right on the money or even close enough to make a DNR officer be the judge.

It did. The picture may have made it look smaller. When you take a picture of a fish with a measuring tape and you are at a slight angle to the left or right, it can give the Illusion of it looking larger or smaller by the tape. Put a tape under an object and look at it from angle from the left and then the right and you'll see what I mean.Looking straight at it, it was more like 83/4 in. Any way I was surprised it shrunk that fast. About an hour. The temp was below freezing when I caught it.
