I saw in Va Pilot that a guy (Alex Foster of West Virginia holds up a 122 centimeter {48.03 inches} striped bass that is the pending International Game Fish Association release world record for the species. (Courtesy of Capt. Clinton Lessard)), has submitted paperwork for a new release world record of 48".

In my opinion it is not really a world record since there has been plenty of bigger fish released this year, the only difference is those fishermen did not submit paperwork and documentation (hook, line, pictures, notarized letter) to get a world record. But congratulations to this fisherman for his catch and release.

I guess next year there will a new push for a new world record. Per VMRC tournament report the biggest fish released in 2019 is a 53.5". Line item "2509 STRIPED BASS 2019-01-07, BOBBY BOWDEN. LITTLE SILVER, NJ, 53.5, OLD C-10 BUOY 36-A, TROLLING EEL" But congratulations to this fisherman for his catch and release.

I assumed it was a line class record when I saw the headline but turns out to be just one of those guys who look for easy records and then hires somebody else to catch it for him. I think sympathy for that mindset is more in order than congrats. Now, having said that, my personal best is only 49", still looking for the 50 incher! and 10 lb Flounder and 15 lb Sheepshead and 100 lb Cobia....and and and
