Default Menhaden it is politics. The first bill in the hopper.

Tomorrow the House Ag. committee, Chesapeake Bay subcommittee will hear Bloxom's bill on changing state code to comply with the AMSFC management plan.

    https://virginiageneralassembly.gov/...=2177&ses=201#

The members of the subcommittee are from Arlington, Fairfax, Fairfax, Newport News, Virginia Beach, Kinsale (on a trib of the Rappohannock), Mapsville (Eastern Shore), and Reston VA. At least this time the majority are not from the western part of the state as it has been in past years.

IMO this is driven by Omega, who makes regular donations to Bloxom. They have read the writing on the wall and know that they have to comply but want to keep management out of VMRC's hands.

If this passes subcommittee it will likely pass out of main committee. Then the question becomes does it pass the house. If it does then I would bet that the other bills which transfer management, etc. die in subcommittee. If it dies in subcommittee then the writing is on the wall that the management will go to VMRC as that is the remaining option.

That is exactly what we wanted. We want HB1448 patron ed by Ken Plum. This will pass all menhaden management authority to VMRC and remove the General Assembly from the process.

Also the Senate Menhaden subcommittee has been scheduled for Wed 1/29/20 too. We want SB 791 out of the Senate. It is identical to HB1448. Both of these bills have the backing of the administration.
