\r\n Default Need New Trailer for 192 Grady White Tournament - single or double axle? Type?\r\n

\r\n Iím nearing the end of my 1999 Load Rite single axle trailer (roller, galvanized) for my 1999 192 Tournament. It is a model 19300GG1 which I believe may be rated at 3,100 pounds.
\r\n
\r\nLooking for recommendations from other 192, or similar, owners on single vs. double axle. IĎm thinking to go with bunks, torsion suspension, aluminum frame, disc brakes, LED lights, etc....
\r\n
\r\nThe current single axle is easy to maneuver and it takes up min space in driveway. The length from the bow eye to coupler is important as I want to minimize that dimension so we can park a car in the driveway too. Currently, the single axle trailer measures 4í-7Ē from ball to bow eye.
\r\n
\r\nMy rig, loaded, to include boat, motor, fuel, batteries, gear, coolers, ice, bait, etc is comig in around 3,400 pounds.
\r\n
\r\nIíve been very happy with my Load Rite and was leaning to purchasing another one. Iím also heavily leaning to the double axle model since I trailer anywhere from 5 miles to 80 miles (each way). Iím looking at the Load Rite Model # AB21T5200102TB1 or AB21T5200LTB1. It is rated at 5200 pounds. The single axle Load Rite biggest model comes in around 3,600 pounds which doesnít provide a big buffer with my total load.
\r\n
\r\nIím in the Wash DC area and looked at Daveís Trailers in Glen Burnie MD for some initial pricing.
\r\n
\r\nAny thoughts, recommendations, or experiences appreciated.

\r\n SeaNic - No suggestions or recommendations to offer but we\'re almost ready to bite the bullet on a new trailer for our \'77 Grady 200 Dolphin which is in a similar weight range as your Tournament.
    \r\n
\r\nPresently we have a 2005 5-Star roller trailer from Dave\'s that I have not been partially happy with. It\'s rated at 5000 or 5200 lbs which is a little overkill but I like having the extra comfort zone. When I contacted Dave\'s a few months ago they recommended another 5-Star with, I think, a 4000 lb rating. Not gonna happen.. Haven\'t done amy further research to date.
    \r\n
\r\nOn the topic of single vs dual axle ... Many years ago when I bought my first trailer I was told that dual axles will lower gas mileage significantly. Don\'t know if that\'s true or the dealer just had a single axle he wanted to sell me. Everyone I\'ve spoken to says there\'s no need for a dual with a gross (boat, motor, etc) weight of approx 4000 lbs. However, although we don\'t use the boat all that much anymore we occasionally trailer 250 miles to Montauk, NY. I\'ve been told that with dual axles if you get a flat in one tire you can continue on a short distance on 3 tires. Could be really helpful in, say, Brooklyn.
    \r\n
\r\nAnyway, best of luck in your search and please keep us up ro date on your progress. If nothing else we\'re probably both looking for the same trailer

\r\n I have a dual axle aluminum frame bunk trailer for mine. EZ loader that I got from Tri-State.
    \n
\nIt\'s 4000 lb capacity, drum brakes on one axle, leaf springs.
    \n
\nI just went out and measured, it\'s about 6 ft from ball to bow eye.
    \n
\nMy previous boat had a single axle. The dual tows much better, much more stable.
    \n
\nYes, it\'s tougher to move around in the driveway than a single axle., but I can manage it.
    \n
\nI tow 600 miles each way to Canada. I have the oil bath hubs, which run nice and cool, but I always have that worry in the back of my head about losing a seal and having all the oil drain out while on the road. The only leak I\'ve ever had was the o-ring on the hub center cap. It was a minor leak, and easy to fix.
    \n
    \nBottom line, I\'d get the dual again.\r\n

\r\n Dual axle is 2x the maintenance, but 2x the peace of mind.

\nLoad rite products are not what they used to be. Customer service sucks in my experience. Got a new ez loader worth every penny in quality and customer service.\r\n

\r\n When trying to research a new trailer I did a Google search for boat trailers sales. Most of the places I called were not full service dealers. What I mean is they don\'t actually stock trailers, or set them up as needed for your boat, adjust tongue weight, etc like Dave\'s did the last time I bought a trailer. They just order the trailer you tell them you want and you pick it up and say Thanks. I guess.
    \r\n
\r\nSo, does anyone know of any full service trailer shops other than Dave\'s? I would really like to look at other brands of trailers and deal with a full service shop.
    \r\n
    \r\nThx in advance,

\r\nO sea D - where did you purchase your Venture? (I had a Venture galvanized years ago. And I\'m kinda partial to the idea of aluminum.)

\r\n If you can afford it - I\'d go with tandem EZ Loader. Ask about upgrade for SS hardware - more upfront but so worth it.
    \n
\nYou get what you pay for in boat trailers - very cheap ones are just that. You save some money but end up nickel / diming after a year or two of use.\r\n

\r\nAfter more calculating my gross boat weight comes in at more like 3200 lbs and if you add 15% for safety margin, as I\'ve read recommended, that puts it at 3680. Which is slightly over the top edge of most single axle trailers. (Dealers don\'t seem to add for a safety margin.)
    \r\n
\r\nI figured OK dually it is but ... everyone says a dual axle is harder to maneuver in tight spaces and we have a VERY tight driveway gate situation. So, I\'m kinds stymied.

It all depends on how far you travel and how much. Two axles are always better on the road but only you know how much room you have at your house. I agree with shoot straight on getting it weighed. Stainless disc brakes too...... Gary\r\n

\r\n Almost forgot... DO NOT CALCULATE!!!! Take it to a scale. My 25 maycraft was almost 1000# over what was "calculated". Had to buy a whole new trailer a year after I bought One for it. Weigh it. Farm or truck Scale. Then add 500# at least to be safe.

\r\n Thanks all for responses. I\'ve been happy with my Load Rite, I just think my boat is pushing a single axle trailer. Looks like I\'m narrowing down to Load Rite or EZ Loader. Cost is lot a primary driver, so I\'m fine with upgrades and quality.
    \r\n
\r\nBoLin - will keep you posted on my pending purchase. I believe we are looking for a similar trailer for our boats. I too, have a very tight driveway situation. The single axle is a breeze to maneuver, but I think the tandem will just mean more practice. How hard can it really be?
    \r\n
\r\nAll - does EZ Loader (next to Tri State) sell direct?

\r\n Worry less about maneuverability and more about a tire/hub/axle failure at 70MPH. I have spent enough time on the shoulder of 95 with blown tires, a hub that literally melted off the axle and sent the tire/wheel rolling independently down the highway, and an axle that spontaneously bent - to know that I will never, ever tow a single axle trailer again.\r\n

Thatís the results of poor maintenance and excessive speeds. Focus on those two things and you\'ll spend less time on the side of the road.
    \r\n
\r\nIf thereís been no issues in 21 years ď1999 TrailerĒ then I wouldn\'t image future problems. That said, if it isnít broken then donít fix it.\r\n

\r\n My dad had a 192 on a single axle shorelander. I never thought it was enough trailer for the boat. Trailer upkeep was the main reason he got rid of it. Twice he had bearings freeze up on the way to a fishing trip and we serviced them every year. I think dealers put the minimum trailer under the boat to keep cost down. When you factor in fuel, fishing and safety equipment, coolers etc., I would lean toward dual with heavier weight rating for piece of mind. His first Grady had a dual trailer and one of the axles feel out while he was parking it,but was still able to park it. I would also recommend a bunk trailer if you have decent ramps.\r\n

\r\n ranged - Those are exactly why I was originally planning to go tandem. Might just have to bite the bullet and deal with the manuverability issue.
    \r\n
\r\nHaving said that ... you must be one very unlucky tower. Have to admit, though, I would have liked to see that tire/wheel rolling down
    \r\nthe highway.

\r\n Hi Justin - My main question was whether to stay with a single axle or upgrade to a tandem. Given most responses, it looks like a tandem axle trailer would be better suited for my boat. Sean\r\n

\r\n After more research and much gnashing of teeth, its looking like we\'re gonna go with an EZ Loader tandem trailer rated at 4000#. Rollers. Disc breaks on one axle. Radial tires and LED lights. As was suggested earlier, Tri State Marine has the know how and the facilities to do the job so they\'ll get our business.
    \r\n
    \r\nHave 1 Q:
    \r\n
\r\n- The trailer comes with an oil bath lube system for the wheel bearings. I\'m only familiar with the "Bearing Buddy" type bearing protection. Anyone familiar with the oil bath? Better or worse than the bearing buddies?

    \r\n Hey Bob,
    \r\n
\r\nIím about where you are with the decision. Iím torn between the rollers or bunks on the same trailer you referenced. I will send you a pm with some additional details I have discovered in my research.

\r\n Oil bath are fine. There\'s good and bad with both grease and oil. That said , It\'s nice to just look at the oil level and know you are ok!\r\n

Default Need New Trailer for 192 Grady White Tournament - single or double axle? Type?

Iím nearing the end of my 1999 Load Rite single axle trailer (roller, galvanized) for my 1999 192 Tournament. It is a model 19300GG1 which I believe may be rated at 3,100 pounds.

Looking for recommendations from other 192, or similar, owners on single vs. double axle. IĎm thinking to go with bunks, torsion suspension, aluminum frame, disc brakes, LED lights, etc....

The current single axle is easy to maneuver and it takes up min space in driveway. The length from the bow eye to coupler is important as I want to minimize that dimension so we can park a car in the driveway too. Currently, the single axle trailer measures 4í-7Ē from ball to bow eye.

My rig, loaded, to include boat, motor, fuel, batteries, gear, coolers, ice, bait, etc is comig in around 3,400 pounds.

Iíve been very happy with my Load Rite and was leaning to purchasing another one.

Iím in the Wash DC area and looked at Daveís Trailers in Glen Burnie MD for some initial pricing.

Any thoughts, recommendations, or experiences appreciated.

      Sean
