I guess I should have fished in the tournament. Today I had Len Clayton and friends from Maryland aboard for a day of striper fishing. These guys wanted to catch some trophy stripers on eels but the conditions just were not right for that. It was slap your momma cold outside and blowing out of the north 10-20. we started out a hair south of the inlet in 42.9 degree water with bait marks, but no bites for us. Then we moved up to cape henry and nada there either. It was beginning to look like I was gonna sit up there and spend the day freezing for nothing when the phone rings. Max King calls me and tells me that he does not have much time left in his day but the birds were trying to get together up north. Without hesitation, we cranked up. When I got there Max was getting ready to leave. After a few minutes the birds finally started diving and it was on. We caught a very easy limit of some real nice fish including my biggest fish of the year, a 47'' 54.5 pound striper with a basketball size stomach. We also had a 47 pound and a 42 pound fish. Thanks Max. Back at it again tomorrow. Pics to come.

They said they wanted one big enough to put on the wall and he got it! Any time you gotta take wraps on the leader for a striper...you know she's big!

Yes sir..it sure did start out looking bleak and cold untill we ran north and it was still cold there but the fishing got red hot and it was easy to forget the cold...well for a while anyway,

When I planned this trip the first call I made to Capt Jake I let him right up front all we wanted was big fish, didn't care about big numbers most of the time that can be had with any Capt,Jake came though in a big way,man that fish is sure going to look great on the wall, from here on I will never kill another big fish, but will still keep a few eating size here and there but thats it,I now have all I need at 54.8lbs and as a bouns there was another big fish on that line close to 90lbs of fish at once, and I thought I was getting weak till Jake from the bridge said that's a double made me feel a little better it was quite a battle one I doubt I ever forget:))

A big thanks to Capt Ben for the great job he did in the pit today, his hands had to have been so cold, can't belive they thawed out enough already to reply to this post,Ben sorry about not stopping back by the boat after bagging up the fish, but when I got back to the van the rest of the crew had it running and warmed up and I jumped right in and left didn't remember till I was taking a hot shower back at the hotel,if you read this and get a change could you b-mail the guy you know in N.Y. about the mount..

I will post some pic's when we get back home Sat..

Once again Thank you Jake and Ben for a great trip..
