All I can say is WOW!

201 fish between 3 anglers, Kenny Clark & Steve (The Beast) Mote.

Launched from Lynnhaven at daybreak, and just plain smoked 'em the rest of the day.

Last week I could not catch a fish over 26" with a total of 76. Yesterday was much different with 25% of the fish in the slot (28'-34"). We found some fish under birds throughout the day but they were fast moving and sporadic, the piling bite was better and came on strong towards dusk. I have never seen sea lice so thick on the fish, some had 20 of the parasites just on the tail. Very few boats...

Best Spot: The deep pilings just north of the 2nd island. On the inside of the ocean span somebody spray painted the first 23 pilings. The bite was hot between piling 17-24 in 55' feet of water.

Best Lure: The best lure by far was "The Bug" (specializedbaits.com) dressed with a 7" Opening Night Bass Assassin. If you fished the BA on a straight jig head you would catch 1/2 the amount of fish. I normally dress "The Bug" with a 5" Uncle Josh Pork Rind Striper Strip but today the deadly combo was found by "The Beast" who went up on me 10 fish before I switched over. 80% of our fish came on this combo. Using super glue on the BA was a must.

2nd Best Lure: 10" BKD, 1 1/2 oz jig head.

Where the Fish Weren't: Islands, tubes.

Kenny caught one tagged fish with a USFWS tag, details of the journey of the fish to come later.

One of my better days at the CBBT, one to remember.

Light traffic allowed us to make the run between Potomac River Bridge to Lynnhaven in less than 3 hours each way.

That is a great CBBT trip! I like hearing about tagged fish too. Looking forward to the info when you get it.
George from Specialized Baits had a table at the Tri-State Flea market last year and I bet he'll be there this year also.

This post was interesting because we fished it today (1-5) and ended up at the very same spot! Piling 22 to 28 was hot with a very good grade of fish, very healthy, heavy and covered with sea lice! Around 125 fish with most 25" with a bunch at 29 to 30", my first cast with the Carrot Stick resulted in a 38", only real big one of the day. Palm Pilot, Sandbar, and Terry were hooked up all day there, we would have caught more but we went exploring a lot. best grade was on the pilings. We found that the fish would hit just about anything! Lots of 7" BA's in sickly green, trout, white, Opening nite, I fished a 5" Strike King Zulu, Black with blue glimmer belly, on a specialized baits 1 oz jig head, and caught tons of fish big and small. They did not really care, just as long as it was in the zone. Had a blast and a sore shoulder for all!!! :cool2:

Nice report fellers. I'm a fan of George's Bug as well, although I've only tipped them with pork rind up to now. Have to try that. Sounds like Whalen and the gang had a good on too. He's been braggin' about that carrot stick for a while.... I get it now. Thanks for the report, Fishamajig.

That afternoon piling bite near the 2nd was just plain incredible. Couldn't ask for anything better in January with the weather either.

We smacked em down between the 9 foot shoal and the 4th both sides we had several drifts from 30 yards outside the bridge all the way thru the other side and caught em all the way thru. Mainly used 5" BA and some 7" BA's and BKD's with 3/4 or 1 ounce lead heads.(match ed the hatch. We figured we had 150 fish in 2 1/2 to 3 hours and 25% were slots.
