Today, I had Chip Yost and his group aboard for a full day. I woke up and looked at the tide and the weather forecast and saw perfect conditions for eeling this morning. Tide was just right at the perfect time. Wind was exactly where it needs to be for my spot and the water clarity was nice. Chip does some fishing and wanted to give the eeling a try. So we went up north to the same old spot and as soon as we got there it was on. Within minutes we were hooked up on a double. Every drift produced multiple bites and in less than an hour, we were limited out on some hogs. Most fish were in the high thirty pound 42-45 inch range with a 49 inch 44 pound cow rockfish and a 50 inch 46 pound cow rockfish thrown in for good measure. The 46 pound fish probably would have weighed in well over 50 pounds, but she threw up about 20 eels at the back of the boat. We even released a couple of 40 plus pound fish so that they could add some release citations to their weight citations. I would imagine the eight fish we brought home were over three hundred pounds in combined weight. Incredibly good fishing today.

Jake i dont believe you can win either way. If you had released them they would of died, if you keep them they would of died. The thing is HE WAS RUNNING A CHARTER 8 FISH IS NOTHING COMPARED TO A DEAD RISE FROM MARYLAND RUNNING TWO TRIPS A DAY KEPPING 46 FISH. ALL THOUGH THE FISH ARE SMALLER RIGHT NOW THEY WONT EVEN HAVE THE CHANCE TO BECOME COWS!

Congrats I guess, kinda sad that many cows had to die.:nono:

I can understand the two biggest.

Why kill that many cows Jake?

No I am not holier than thow, I have killed 1/3 of what was taken on this one
post the entire season and released the rest for paper.

I don't intend to start a debate or a ruckus just thinking about conservation.

We are raping our resources fish by fish, charter by charter.
aware of this function at all ? Just a heads up-

But to answer your question, as you- I agree (with you) and would never kill that many fish on my boat. But these folks are out of town on a PAID charter
who is going to tell them they gotta put fish back ?
They paid for the trip- its Jakes JOB to go put them on the fish, and those guys can take
their "fare share" according to the law. He of course likes to fish but he also does it to pay bills, how many customers you going to have when word gets
out- "oh dont go on that boat , the Capt wants to to release 1/2 your catch".....you gotta do what pays the bills.........
When I mate on a charter I wouldnt think toask a guy thats paying me the tip to let his fish go, on the other hand.....you WILL let fish go when you go on my personal boat- or you wont go again.

Well said. Guys paid for a trip. Not the captn's duty to enforce conservation. I was at the dock when these guys came in and they were ecstatic. Said it was the best trip they ever had. It's not up to anyone but them what they do with their catch. And by the way they did release quite a few fish to swim another day. I just don't get why day after day you see people respond to a great report with pics, then go on to bash the poster. Didn't your parents teach if you don't have anything nice to say to keep your fu5%ing mouth shut.
Thats 99% of the problem in this country, everyone wants to tell someone else what to, how to do it, when and where, instead of minding their own business.
