For some reason I'm still contemplating--perhaps it was Mully's big fish earlier in the week--I decided to launch the Skeeter today. I was happy to see the water had warmed up to 34.2 degrees and the 17-mph-wind-induced white caps hitting me in the face as I ran upriver weren't all that bad. On my second cast with a 4-1/2-inch suspending jerkbait I snagged a pickerel on the back, landed it, but was too cold to take a picture. I think I made maybe five of six more casts after that before my hands froze. I'll see you guys in February.

In other news, Coastal Brewing Company (Fordam) just purchased the rights to Defenders of Freedom Choice Lager. While you may start seeing the new bottle (pictured right) in local stores, be warned. About the only thing similar to the original is the name...the new stuff is actually drinkable.

Chris -

You are definitely a hardy fisherman. I drove to my preferred shoreline fishing spot for pickerel around 11:30 today in the hopes of making my first casts since October, but found solid ice from shore to shore.

Earlier in the morning I stopped by Marty's Tackle Shop in Edgewater where Jim has everything in the store on 20% discount. I then drove a block down the street to a liquor store where I often buy beer. They had a great sale on one PA beer (Yuengling lager for $15.99/case). I was shocked at the price on another PA microbrew (Stoudt's) at $15.99/6-pack. Stoudt's is good but not that good. I asked the two clerks if that cost was correct. They both agreed with me that it seemed too high, but when they scanned in a 6-pack, sure enough it showed up at $15.99. I left that on the shelf and bought some German beer (Spaten Oktoberfest) that was marked down 25%.
