I spent the last couple of days down at Kiptopeke with my dad, son, and two buddies and though the fishing was not what I was hoping for we still had a great time. The bay was rough early in the trip keeping us off the water and when we did get out the fishing was a bit slow compared to other years. Overall it was a great time though and I'd go back again next week if I could.
Day 1 - Thursday 12/11
Not much to report from day one. There was rain, wind, and lightning storms which kept us off the water. We did try to try for specks at the Hot Ditch but couldn't get the boat in the water due to a bad ramp and very low tide.
Day 2 - Friday 12/12
Friday was supposed to be a good day from the extended marine forecast, however, it turned out to be blowing 15-20 and there was no was we could get out. Went to VA Beach and hit some tackle shops and played a lot of poker.
Day 3 - Saturday 12/13
Saturday started off a little choppy in the morning but we decided to go anyway. We left Kiptopeke at first light and then spend the day aorund the fourth island picking away at the schoolies. Total for the day was around 50 fish but we lost a ton of jigs/BA's to the rocks. It was great to get some pullage but it wasn't the same as last year.
Day 4 - Sunday 12/14
Left at daylight and we were met by a calm bay. On the way to the fourth we checked out 9 foot shoal but didn't mark any fish so we kept moving. Arrived at the fourth and picked at the schoolies for about three hours catching about 10 fish. At around 9:30 we decided it was time to head back and get ready for the 6 hour drive home.
Oh yeah, it was good meeting a couple TidalFish members as well and Shore Stay Suites was very nice though there is very limited boat parking.
