TF'er T-bone just sent me some pics. He is the Captain of the Stormy Petrel when Goinsfishin (Steve) is not available.

He is still out on the water. But, this is what I know so far.....

They had a rod hit hard. A Virginia angler started to reel in the fish. T-bone said is was a good hard fighting fish. It started leaping out of the water. He knew it wasn't a Rock. They landed the fish....it was a 34 1/4" Bluefish. :eek2::clapping2::high5: it weighed in at 12 pounds.

34" is citation size for a Blue. I know I've never handed one out in the 5 years I've had the shop.

Wow! Biggest Blue I've heard up this way in a gazillion years!

Congrats to the lucky Angler (left) and Captain T (right)!

It was caught outside of Deale in 37' of water. It hit a crack-attack. (My friend Andy (TF'er Rockhard) told T-bone about this one). I will find out more about the set-up. It is a umbrella rig tandemed up with another lure. Will post about it later.

T-bone said the Big Blue tore up a 9" white shad. It looks like some of his fellow commie blues been doin' some tail nippin' on this guy.

Figgered y'all would like this one. Wonder if there are more to come???????

Be still my heart. This is about the time we used to get the big blues when rock were in short supplu. Blues do not travel alone, they are a schooling fish so if there is one there are more.

Those that have the 70's and '80's Fishing in Maryland annuals check the citations and you'll see plenty that are caught from mid-May to mid-June.

Time to start plugging the shallows, Thomas PT., Greenbury and Hacketts in the evening and early morning hours. Four feet of water or less.Use those surface plugs and hang on. This is light tackle paradise. This was exactly the reason I became a basitcaster enthusiast. Big blues in shallow water wore my forearm out with spinning gear. But before we get into a pissing match over baitcaster vs. Spinning that's not my point. They are both fun.

Blues

Ill have to break out some of my originally wrapped rag mops and 21 tony's bought back in the 80's from the Pasadena Best Products and the Severna Park Murphy's Mart.
I got so many originally wrapped lures from back then that I have lost count. Big Crippled Elwives too. Dad would buy lures and so did I.
Hoses too.
This is going to be a great season I think!

I love catching them thangs ! As Gary said, even better in the smoker. Caught these while trolling at CBBT a few years back: View attachment 60310
Was at CBBT one december and the slammers were mixed in with the stripers. It was my favorite trip to CBBT even caught a few on flyrod.
