Decided to go in the woods for the first time this season on saturday. We had a front moving in and a temp drop so i thought for sure the deer would be on the move. Arrived to my tree at 6:20 am and waited. 3 deer moved past about 6:49 close enough that i could see there shadow but couldn't figure out what they were. 15 minutes later i heard what sounded like a grunt and before you know it i had an 8 pointer broad side standing 12 yards away. The problem i had was that the bow was hanging in the tree. He took off like he was hot on a doe trail so i grabbed the bow and the grunt call and made a few grunts. About a minute went by and he came charging in slamming on his breaks because he got down wind .He was about 10 yards from me and I let him have it, ran 60 yards and i heard him crash. He's not a monster but made my day. The next one i shoot has to be bigger or else he will be the only one for 2008. I read the post a few times asking if the deer were in rut and thought you guys were crazy until this.
