THERE ARE WAYS OF DOING THANGS, BUT THEN THERE ARE THE "PROPER" WAYs OF DOING THANGS.
AS GERALD AND MESEFF ARE ALL INTO "LASSOOING" FEESH, I'D LIKE TO TELL YOU HOW IT'S DONE, WITHOUT HURTING THE TRAYT(well...sometimes).

firstly, you gotta be "on the rope", which ia a pro term for lassooing a feesh by either his hayd, mid body, tail, but the best , and most exciting way, which is lassoing him by his hiney-hole."on the rope" means that you are actually trying to catch a feesh using this lassooing method.
a how to: as you are jigging , and have your jig down around a mess of feesh, either on the botton, or suspended, you feel, thru your line, the proximity the trayt are to your jig(i.e., your hook).
when one fish makes contact wth your jig, you have to instantly pull your rod tip up, exactly 8 inches, and at the same time, you must whirl the tip ,of your rod around in a tight circle, then pull up hard, and ...you have now lassoed the feesh.
this whole technique is called "rodeoing", and is a lot of fun becaus.... you know what a foul hooked trayt feels like coming in.

if you inadvertantly foul hook him, either in his hiney hole, or near to it, the proper term for that is called lass-holing. most trayt prefer this lass-holing, and will normally give you either a great big smile(as you are retrieving the hook) or , even better, a nice, slyly done wink! dependant on whether a male or female trayt!
to take the trayt off you line if'n he;s been lassooed, put feesh on deck, and , with standing line in one hand, pull sharply on line, and the feesh will just spin on deck, unwinding the line from him at the same time.if line gets tangled we find it easier just to cut the feesh in half with a great big butcher knife, and line should fall right off of him.

y'all oughta try this....takes some practice, but very rewarding, and, once you get it all down, you can even have contests, just like a real rodeo, on how many were properly lass-holed or lassooed, how long take to get him in, how large trayt lassooed, how many had to be cut in half(this takes away from your points that you;'ve racked up,) etc., etc.
have fun....!!!!;-)need anymore info on this call either calpn trayt or g-person anytime.book on this being published in march 2009.more info coming.

I think that this art form, being so hard to master its gonna be a while for it takes hold. Like fly fish'n the bay. Use to be you never see any one on the fly but now everytime your out ya see some.

Butch -

It is a welcome sight to have your imaginative posts back on TF. Thanks for sharing the new technique. Even though I have fished in Texas several times, none of the guides mentioned the rodeo method.

Ask Charlie Trophy about lass-holing. He's got that trick down to a science. And your right, they give him a little wink and a nod too. ;-)

Had to share these birthday pics I took of my grandson "Cowboy Jarret" -- who just turned 7 -- at the International Bull Riding Championships last night. The kid is pure retro.

Eminent Brothers,
You know.....I think those dasturdly commies finally got to old brother Butch. All that truth stuff they used during those long interragation sessions must have finally taken their toll. At least he never confessed....
