PLEASE keep this thread positive!

I got a call from my captain today and he suggested that we postpone our striper charter this Friday until things pick up a bit. I gotta admit that I was a little bummed out but I also kinda knew that the fishing had been slow around VA Beach since that ugly cold spell last week.

My point is:
He could have taken us out into the ocean on a 6 hour boat ride, collected his $700 and chalked it up to a bad day fishing but instead he was honest with me and told me that the lack of local fish was a concern. He did say that some fish were WAY north, WAY south or way east but with our 1/2 day charter the WAY north and WAY south wasn't going to be practical and he doesn't go way east for striper. I couldn't agree more and he will get my business as soon as the fish return:yes:

I have already set up a flounder trip to the CBBT with him in April!
I will be glad to give his name through a PM but I will not post it out of fear that some moron will try and turn this thread into something negative and I refuse to let his honesty be used against him!

That's a man that wants customers ! Would like to know who he was because I have a trip booked for Saturday with my friends and it's a good 3 1/2 hour drive just to get there. We have a room booked also so it's going to be alot of money added to the price of the chartered trip.Hope it's not a wasted trip. My hats off to the captain !

Glad to Hear About a Good One!

Hans,

The charter we took last Saturday did not want to fish beyond the 3 mile line and that was fine with us. He also ran over 40 miles north for us, but there was no joy! Net result no fish, but a good effort by captain & crew.

A good captain is hard to find and always a pleasure to fish with.

I'd like to hope that more of us Captains would do the same thing. My business has been EXTREMELY slow, but I would rather have a satisfied customer later, and the good will he would spread, than an unsatisfied customer (and me with his money) now.

Does anyone remember how many "Attaboys" are wiped out by one "Aw SH!T" ? One negative feedback CAN kill someone's reputation.

Water temps need to pop up a bit. I have switched over to freshwater stripers with my saltwater boat in the shop. At least if I get skunked it doe$n't hurt that bad. Water temp in inland lakes is 36, fish are very slow and are caught drifting Tony Accetta spoons.

Hey South Paw, are you fishing Lake Anna? I want to try lake fishing for the striped ones but I am a little hesitant cause I have never boated in Lake Anna. I just bought a new ETec and I am a little scared to run a body of water that I am not familiar with. I'm sure that I will get off the porch and run with the big dogs soon.:D

Nothing to be afraid of

As long as you have a depthfinder, there isn't much to be afraid of in Lake Anna. A lot of the Lake is 40-70 feet except way up in the creeks. The fish will be suspended in the deeper water with water temps like that.

Hans,

Lake Anna is a great place to fish for stripers, but I'm fishing closer to home in the NN/Hampton area. I use planer boards, run a three way with a 1.5 oz bucktail & trailer and a Tony Accetta # 13 Pet spoon, and troll at 1.5 mph. I love seeing the planer boards pop like a mousetrap when a fish hits. Some of you might recognize this as just a scaled down mojo and a bunker spoon. Hey a striper is a striper, saltwater or fresh...
