My questions:

1. What alloy are they made from? There are only a few “marine” aluminum alloys.

2. Can you keep them tighten down? Small pieces of aluminum, large temperature swings and connections relying on friction can be problematic by itself. Throw in massive amounts of shock and vibrations and I have my doubts.

I'd be leery of them.Trolling rods put alot of stress on the holders - having two together might not hold up well.

Lee's clamp on rodholders are about $95.00 each but are strong and will last forever. There are other ones out there but remember with boats - you get what you pay for.

Risking expensive rods/reels to cheap rodholders :eek2:.

Most places that do manufacturing charge about $100ea to have additional rod holders welded on. i am trying to get some for my hard top support before spring.
That's way expensive. You can buy the pre-made tubes for about $40 each retail. Probably less than $30 wholesale.

If they are charging $60-$70 each to weld them on I'm hanging up my passport and going back into the welding again.

I only called two places as i am not quite ready yet. Where can you get it done for less? I was told $95 by one place and $100ea by the other. Shoot me a pm if you want! I am hoping for 6 of them total :yes:

FWIW welding is not cheap any more. I received a few quotes and the cheapest for something like this was close to a grand.

I built it myself for under 100 bucks

Greg-there is a guy in So Md named Kenny. He owns a shop called Coffee Hill Welding. He was the cheapest by far for me. Tell him you know Bill Zell (my dad) Kenny does a lot of welding on job sites for my dad.
