Anyone have any experience with the Trac Titon 450 anchor drum winder? http://www.overtons.com/modperl/pro...Titan-450-Stainless-Steel-Drum-Winch&i=848700 Seems a low budget option for an anchor winder.

Does everyone really go up and tie off their anchor when using a traditional windlass? Getting up on the bow of my boat is not easy with 2-1/2" wide side decks. The whole point is not to have to go up to the bow to drop and retrieve anchor.

Thanks.

You can get a Lewmar Pro-fish 700 from defender for that price and it will handle a lot more. How big is your boat? The max pull on that model is 175lb compared to 700 lb for the Lewmar Pro-Series 700 I have that is about the same price. Their site doesn't even show that model anymore.

I went 1 size up on my windlass and never tie off. 23' boat with the 700 Series. If you want Free Fall get the Pro-Fish

Defender is a reputable dealer and seems to often have the best prices for boat electrical equipment.

Thanks Dave. you don't have issue with it jamming or anything? I'm just looking for as handsfree as possible. I'm in a 22' boat so if it works for you without tying off hopefully it works for me.

I do have an issue with the rode lies correctly in the locker. My locker isn't very deep so I have to push the line down at times. If it doesn't then the line gets sucked back into the windlass and then you have to untangle. I've been told that going to 8-plat will correct this issue but that's pretty expensive.

I know that the drum is a lot better and you won't have to deal with the issue. I'd just make sure it has the power and won't fail if you try to use it under load.
