Today was the day that fellow TF'ers took participants of the Annapolis City Police Fish Camp on the bay as sponsored by the MSSA.

The camp has shrunk a bit due to staff changes and the difficulty the officers face in getting permission slips signed by the parents. However there were a dozen or so kids from at-risk neighborhoods accompanied by the police dept chaperones that enjoyed a great morning on the bay. The wind did kick up a bit but it was out of the west and while the bite was a bit slower this year, fish were had again. Keeper rockfish to 25" and white perch went home with the kids. Of course plenty of smiles were had as well.

In addition to thanking the MSSA for sponsoring the day with bait and ice. I would like to thank the following TF'ers who took the time during the work week to provide their time, boats, fuel, equipment and experience with the officers and kids.

  • Capt Ric of Zion Charters his Judge 27 (if looking for a small boat/ personalized charter, give him a shout!)
  • Jason Zagalsky in his Judge 27
  • Ron Buffington in his brand new Sea Hunt
  • Joe Tkach in his Sea Pro CC
  • Tom McAvon in his Mako 253

Here are some photos of the day:

I would like to thank Greg Shute and the Annapolis city fish camp for inviting us to be apart of this. My wife (who was my mate for the day) and I had a an great day and hope that we can continue to be apart of this! I would also like to thank Lehigh Cement in Union Bridge MD, they insisted on sending each child home with a fishing pole and small tackle pack. The MSSA for their donation of Ice and bait for the event, Greg Shute, should also be commended for his help in the organization of the event and for supplying donuts to the local crows who raided his boat :) and J.R. whitsell of Jigged up customs who gave me a few jigs and trailers to be used for the event. Before My wife and I even made it home last night we received calls and texts thanking us. I am not sure why because it was our pleasure to do this and we felt privileged to be apart of it! Thank you again and please reach out to us any time in the future help is needed! We can be contacted through the forums or on our page https://www.facebook.com/jaimelynnfishingteam/ as well we be putting up more pictures and a video of the event on our page also.
We had an all girls crew, aside from myself and they rocked. All 3 ladies caught rock fish and unfortunately before we made it to white perch we had to turn around and head in due to another child being sick. The ladies were worried and wanted to be with him. They also each insisted on giving their fish a kiss which was cool and it was great seeing 5 year old Kennedy catch her first fish. Kennedy is a natural and I believe this young lady has a future in fishing as she was not concerned with chunking and insisted on light tackle jigging the WHOLE TIME! she litterly jigged with a jigged customs bait from J.R. whitsell the whole 4 hours we were on the water.
In addition a big thanks to Greg Shute and Joe Tkach for assisting me with a battery issue even before they figured out I was there to help with the event. It was great meeting all of the other captains involved and if anyone is looking for a charter any of them would be an excellent choice!

Thank you Ron. Without you and the others, the kids dont go fishing on the bay.

Thank you for also facilitating Lehigh Cement in Union Bridge MD donating a rod and reel for the kids to go home with. Hopefully the camp helps ignite a passion for fishing and the rods can help them continue to engage in the outdoors.

Greg / others - huge thank you for taking time to help out such a worthy cause.

It's amazing what a difference just a few hours of kindness can make in these youngsters lives.

I'll put money they talk about their fishing trip for a long time.
