Was down there for a week from 7/19-7/26 and never picked up a single croaker. Normally they provide good continuous action for the grandkids but never saw one. Not sure whether it was the weather of last winter or the netters got all of them. Also used to pick up kingfish in the inlet but not much. Not one to be found.
Over that past 3 weekends, I hit the typical dozens spots that hold them depending how far up the bay they have moved. Usually hit a thick bunch somewhere along the line. This year, a big zip. Don't know if they are coming in later or if its just going to be a poor season this year.
Flounder in the bay were off this spring as well.
The big chill and ice over the winter, el nino, who knows ....
OP here. We have had a big family fish fry the 3rd week of July for the last 5 years. Depended on croaker for the menu. This year we had to settle for flounder. Lucky us, some other family members did well at the wrecks. We'll give the croaker another chance in 2 weeks.
