I have not fished for them very often and cannot give the best advice but since no one has answered you I can tell you what I have done.
I launched at the Dutch Gap ramp. A short trip down river to the bridge and look for a deep hole. Drop live bait or cut shad to the bottom and wait. The last time I did this I caught a 25 pounder very quickly.
if you dont have a boat you can fish along the bank as well at dutch gap-
if you do have a boat, it would be much closer to launch at the deep bottom ramp instead, then come UP river.....just past the bridge.....last time i went we caught 6 fish last month(16,20,18,22,31 & a 43- or close to that ? ).....going again next weekend too.....( i hope you saved and froze those eels from striper fishing....cats love em )
