We arrived in Big Pine Key Florida Sunday for our Fishing/Honeymoon.
Monday morning we went out in the back waters on Janet's 23' c.c. (a friend from MD) anchored up and put out the chum bag. We were having a great time catching Lane Snappers, Grunts and an occassional Blue fish. We had been there a few hours and caught alot of fish, when Janet hooked up with a Blue that was giving her a good fight. We were all watching as it ran and took the line towards the bow.

Suddenly the water erupted.
A giant fish snatched the blue, cleared the rail, and landed in the bow of the boat.
WTF.
We just stood there in disbelief as the monster thrashed, knocking everything around.
What is it? :bigfish: It's about 5 foot long, over 50 pounds, has big teeth and is angry.
Janet says, " I think its a Barracuda, stay away from it, one bite could rip you open"
We were SUPER FREAKED. We ain't never seen no fish like this.
We just stood there and watched, as it thrashed around till it finally tired.
I grabbed the camera and took a few pics, nobodys going to believe this.

Now What? How we going to get it out of the boat.
Well, Mary being brave or dumb, took a 5 gallon bucket and put it over its head.
OK, she got its mouth/teeth covered, so I took part of the anchor line and wrapped it around its tail. I hoisted it up by its tail as Mary lifted its head in the bucket and we rolled it back over the side. Splash, and it was gone.
WOW, What a rush!
The whole bow and everything around it was covered in a thick slim.
Well that was enough excitment for one day. We pulled anchor and headed in, still in awe of what just happened.

Got back to the dock and started telling our story to everyone we saw.
Don't believe us, we've got pics.
Capt. Dan, a local waterman, says "That ain't no Barracuda"
"Thats a King Mackeral"
"YOU THREW IT BACK ???"

Well thats our story, can't blame you if you don't believe it, we hardly believe it ourselves.

Larry and Mary,
Having Too Much Fun in the Keys.

damn, thats a way to start the fishing/honeymoon. You got the luck running full steam ahead, hope your old ticker is up to the task.
Great post, and by the look on that fish, I would have let Mary handle it to.
You threw it back? Hell, get out there and get another one.

Great post 'Bird!! Congratulations on the wedding! Fishing/Honeymoon?? I love it!! :clapping2: We incorporated fishing into our honeymoon too, and fish on just about all of our vacations. We got skunked on our Hawaii honeymoon on two different islands  (more "unfinished business"), we did really well last summer on our OBX vacation.

Essentially live lining a 17 or so inch blue? What a rush! :D Will all the bluefish biteoffs a lot of us have gotten, this is truly a case of the hunter becoming the hunted. We were live lining 4 pound jacks for sharks in the Keys a few years ago. I thought the jack continued to fight well until a 180 lb lemon inhaled the jack and made the drag totally scream!

This baby tarpon, my first ever, jumped in the boat in a 2003 trip to Islamorada. The keys are too much fun. Enjoy your honeymoon 'Bird!
