paxfish, your correct - it's on a trailer. I read it might be better to extract the oil instead of draining it because of some oil remaining in the "tough to drain spots" of the engine? Other than saving time taking off 4 screws/bolts and maybe a bit less messy, I don't know any other reason extracting would be better since the boat is out of the water?

I have the Moeller type extractor and it works great... it's really helpful to have a threaded adaptor that allows it to screw onto Yamaha's oil diptick tube. I got mine from SIM on the hulltruth as part of a kit.

From what I've been told, draining the oil via the plug allow for all the oil to be removed. When you use the extractor a small portion of the oil ends up being left in.
