Just curious. Did anyone else receive a crazy high Dec bill from BGE? We called and said they estimated the Dec usage bill for us and it would balance out when they read the meter next month. However they "estimated" our usage to be more than we use in the summer when we are running our a/c (we have oil heat). I believe the bill to be almost double what it usually is this time of year. A co worker of mine complained about this too. I am just seeing if others were "Estimated" very high too? (me thinks they were trying to pad numbers in their books for stock evaluations)

Hmm..... something doesn't seem right with our BGE bill either. It was more than double the November bill. The actualy energy usage was 113 kwh more than last month. Does that seem right? The reading on the bill says actual reading so I'm guessing it's not an estimate.

Yes, quite a shock. After I got over the shock I checked last years bill. The usage and average temp was almost identical. The cost increase was 14% from last year.

From a website i found:

When it is estimated it means that no one actually came out to read your meter for whatever reason. We have had estimated ones before and then on the next months bill it will be adjusted. Ours was estimated this month as well, and is really high. Turns out our whole road (and perhaps area) was estimated. Apparently there was a big power outage somewhere and so they did not get out to read the meters on our road. You can do one of two things. You can either pay it, and then have a credit or low bill next month or you can call and they will send someone out to actually read the meter and then you will get a new bill.

We paid ours but are expecting a MUCH lower bill next month when they read the meter. Their is something funny about their recent "estimating" practices IMHO as it has never been this out of wack for so many people. They obviously were trying to help cash flow through "estimating" usage.

My electric bill was double the month prior and double the same month last year. Last spring we have updated our heating and cooling to a super high efficiency system (like 19 SEER a/c and high efficiency oil furnace) as well as several of our high energy appliances like our washer and drier.

While I am suspicious of their "estimating" practices this month, I am fortunate enough to be able to afford it. I feel for those that have been hit harder by the economy and are dealing with questionable "estimates".

Ours was high, but not extremely high. We have natural gas, so including that, the bill was $228. Last year it was $194. I'll ask my wife whether that was estimated. FWIW, we don't mind cool temps in the house (we keep the inside at about 62). We're also religious about turning things off when not in use (lights out even if leaving the room for a few minutes), use almost all CFL's, etc.

Also, didn't we just go through one of the coldest mid-November-mid-Decmber period in years?

Not bad for a Mansion!:D:D
Nope... no mansion. 2000 SF Single Family. When I called BGE to discuss the problem with them, they said that it likely went up because I have a hot tub outside... they did not seem to understand that I had the same one outside last year, and supposedly my usage went up... almost 50%! They said that they would come out and inspect the meter at the next scheduled reading, and may make an adjustment... bunch of thieves.
