Hey guys - I am fairly new to this late season trolling game and was wondering if you could kindly give me some basic advice on the late season trolling so that I can attempt to put some filets in the freezer for the family this winter. Tips like trolling speed , depth of troll, colors, and how far back for the brellas and/or chutes ? I really appreciate your time and help on this in advance. I hopefully will be trolling between Hooper island light and 72 on SAT. Again thanks for the tips and good luck fishing.

I am sure you will get a lot of responses. Also, if you do a search here on "trolling spread" or something similar, you will be good to go. Here's what I troll with in the fall.

Planer board rods:

12 rods all with 2-6oz single parachutes on them. I only use chart or green

Roof rods:

1. 275' out with 2 oz's added weight and a small six arm umbrella
2. 325' out with no added weight and a 3 and 6oz double parachute
3. 400' out with a 6oz parachute

(ps-the 275 and 325 have 80lb braid, the 400 has mono)

Boat rods:

1. 200' out with no weight and a umbrella
2. 165' out with 6oz's and an umbrella
3. 100' out with 12oz's and an umbrella
4. 85' out with 16oz's and an umbrella
5. 55' out with 28oz's and an umbrella
6. 55' out with 28oz's and an umbrella
7. 40' out with 38oz's and an umbrella
8. 40' out with 64oz's and an umbrella

Half of the boat has white (the left side) the other half has chart (the right side)

Yama, you'll catch fish, but it's not gonna be much of a fight, with a tld 50 you're just winching em in. Personally I don't think you need more than 50# mono in the bay, and the mid-sized penns seem to do the trick

The 28 can be bought at almost any tackle shop.

The 38 is a 28 and a 10 tied together.

The 64 can be bought at Oceans East tackle in VA Beach and maybe a few other places more locally. There is also something called a doggy dick which is like a mini downrigger ball that I use a lot. would search for a picture of it on google or something but I work at a school and the administration might not like my search criteria.

I would say the 40 with the big weights and the 55 with the 28's are something like 30-35 feet down. I down know how deep it really is, I just know it's two extra rods i can sneak off the boat. They aren't the most productive rods by any means, but, when they catch it's normally a big fish!
