We were not too far south of the mouth of the South River and got into some 16" blues on topwater plugs with some 18-19" rockfish in the mix as well. Was an absolute riot. Definitely time to switch out those plastic shads to spoons.
This is only my 2nd year trolling. Always fished the Patapsco in my previously smaller bass boat. Sping striper season was good to me.
Maybe I'll have to give the blues a try. I know I hate them while I'm fishing for stripers. Thanks for the report.
Agreed on all fronts. The group I was working were obviously breaking the surface and when a slowly crept up on them, I was expecting some keeper sized rockfish based on what I watching, but I was pleasantly surprised when the drag on my reel was sceaming. Good times.
@THE 3 RULES - On light tackle, it can be a blast. Personally, this time of year I've already hung up all the trolling gear, but it can also be fun to troll into a pack of blues and have all your rods go down too. Creates for some excitement.
