Got my renewal notice yesterday with an offer to upgrade to "GOLD" towing. No where in the package does it explain Gold service. 25 minutes of internet searching ended with a phone call to Boat US.

Here's the scoop -

"Unlimited" coverage pays 100% of the tow bill IF you are on the water when you need tow services. If you breakdown and are tied to a unrestricted dock or mooring it only pays 50%. For example, if you break down at your home dock it pays 50% of the tow to your service facility. If you break down in your home creek, afloat, it pays 100% of the tow to a dock of your choice.

"Gold" coverage pays 100% of any dock to dock tow up to 25 miles. A restricted dock is any dock that you must leave immediately; restaurant dock, gas dock, no overnight facilities, etc.

Unlimited is $116.00 - Gold is $157.00

Hope this saves someone else the aggrivation of of researching the difference.

So, what you're saying is that if I break down at my (or an "unrestricted") dock I should cast off the lines and paddle out into the creek while waiting for the tow boat ?

Make sure you don't let your kids off at the dock so they yell hi daddy when the tow boat shows up

Exhaust manifolds left me disabled this summer. Dock to dock coverage 50% from Boat US. My insurance company, Allstate, paid the rest. Check the terms of your INS policy 1st..

Three years ago, I had three tows covered by their unlimited coverage. after the third one, the tow boat captain told me that I might be cancelled, but they didn't. Next year I had two tows. knock on wood, this past season, no tows.

Jeff, when a boat is used as often as mine, one can expect equipment breakdowns. Point here was Boat US unlimited towing provided their service more than one time for the fee. It's a good deal, and I wouldn't run without it, or some other form of on the water towing coverage.
