If you stop and think for a minute - the amount of energy a 180 foot increase of water would take - look out New York city.

Chesapeake Bay Impact Crater

If you thought the possibility that a small meteorite may have caused the tsunami being reported, check out the link to the Chesapeake Bay Impact Crater near Cape Charles, Virginia. http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2001/11/1113_chesapeakcrater.html

I think the term is that the underground rock structures were microbreciated, which allowed salt water to intrude into the fresh water aquifers. When we built a weekend home near White Stone, VA (some 55 miles from Cape Charles), we had to put in an under the sink reverse osmosis system as the water some 600 feet down was more than 20 times the suggested EPA limit for salinity for consumption.

It was interesting to learn about an event some 35 million years ago that still has an effect on the area around the lower Chesapeake Bay.
