Fished Friday night at the High Rise with Fletcher, his wife Verna and Carl. Verna had never caught a striper before so I wanted to make sure her first striper was a big one.

Here is a short video of our evening.

Verna's first fish was a nice fat 42 but then she pulls up mama, a nice 51 inch striper.

Fletcher get a nice 42 for a nice husband/wife double.

Fletcher then gets a nice 46.

Carl gets a 44 incher.

We cranked in about 15 fish on the outgoing current, most fish over 40 inches. All clean releases. Release citations for Verna, Fletcher, and Carl. Near full moon was so bright it seemed like near daylight out there. Congrats to Verna on her first ever striper and for getting a nice 51 inch release citation.

I'm still smiling

Thank you so much Mike for a spectular trip. Fletcher and I had a blast. I was glad that your "SKUNK" crew from last week didn't let ya down last night.:clapping2: Thanks for putting me on my :bigfish: I will never forget that one and how much fun it was. After watching the video, it brought back all the fun from last night. Carl, that Mikey D's dumpster rod sure did the job on that 51". Now both of our rods have been "christened.":))

A little more detail on the fishing.

Fished the new bridge, bay side in 52 foot of water. Did not mark any bait, just marked fish. Birds were mostly sitting. Got there just as the current started moving out. The fished started out deep closer to the bottom. With the near full moon the current started ripping in no time. So we put on more weight to get down deeper. Started catching with a little more weight. Then as the current reached max, the fish seemed to move up the water colomn so we actuall had to take more weight off to keep catching. Just thought it was interesting how the fish move up as the current increased despite the absence of bait.

Put some bling on many of the leaders. Some just a little spinner blade and some put a mylar seawitch on to give a some extra flash. The ones with the extra bling seemed to help and got bit more. Put a glow stick on some too but not sure this made any difference as the ones withouth got hit too. If we weren't getting bites, we found just adding or taking off weight or cranking up or cranking down got it back in the zone. In other words, don't just put your spread out and sit back and relax, change things up especially if you're marking and not getting bites.

Some very cold temps in the forecast next week, hopefully it doesn't push the fish too far south.

:bigfish: Congratulations Verna!! That is a huge striper! Nice work Fletcher, Mike and rest of the crew.

We were at the old bridge for the incoming tide and did not even get a bite.

Rick
Thanks, my goal was to catch a :bigfish: when I was 50 and I only had 2 months left, so Mike made sure that happened.:clapping2: Thank you so much MIKE!. I appreciate that. What a fun trip. It was late and it was semi-cold, but the fish were biting and we had fun, at least I did:yes::yes::yes:

Thank you so much, you don't do bad yourself, I've seen some of your catches and theyare nice. The credit goes to the captain, Mike, he is the one who put us on fish. I had so much fun. Yes, I still can't wipe the grin off my face from catching that fish!
