Try the offshore board. There is some major tournament there soon and a lot of local (Ocean City, Rudee, NC) boats are heading all the way to Cancun for the tournament. This time of year the sailfish bite is phenominal. Sorry, can't help you with a make up charter or even a reccomendation but it might be worth your while to spend the extra bucks to have mulitple shots at sailfish. In other words, it will be worth your while.

Went there a couple years ago and went a local boat.Caught 15 sails in a cuple hours the last time.I was going to be there this year the same time as you and you could have hook up with me.As for make ups they take you bottom fishing or troll close to cancun. They do not make the run for the sails unless they are close.Get hooked up with an american boat thru this board or go to Isla and walk the docks and talk to the captains and mates they maybe able to help you out.I have done this in the past.

Thanks for the link, we may check them out- wife and I will be down the first week in March and have never been before. A buddy of mine speaks of good tarpon fishing in the lagoon/bay - if he can remember the website I'll post it. Andy

I just got back from Cancun this past weekend. Can't help you on the Charter inquiry, but the surf action was wild. Since the reef, just off the beach, was pretty much destroyed by Wilma, the surf fishing has become productive. I saw Snook, SeaBass, Baracuda and Jacks taken on "Hand Lines" used by the locals. You don't need to cast very far. Lots of bird action each day. They were using a wide assortment of spoons connected to an 18" wire leader with a small (1/2oz?) egg sinker just above the wire leader. Didn't see anyone using real bait on a fish finder rig, but they said fresh shrimp worked as well. I looked all over downtown for some tackle, but couldn't find a thing. Even Walmart didn't have anything:eek2:. So if you want to try it, best to bring your own.
