For those of you who use carabiners and rubberbands on their planner lines and could use a few more Harbor Freight tools has them on sale for .49 cents a piece and the smaller 2 inchers are 3 for $1. I remember Skip saying something about how he carries 50 or more of them and pays over a dollar a piece (I think)...well if you pay for 50 of them at retail it can add up. Grab a bunch while you can if you are near a store. I will have to have ONE HECK of a day to use all the clips I have now:D

See you guys at the Timonium show tomorrow and maybe Saturday or Sunday too:D

Thanks Dave, good information. Now who has the cheapest scotty clips? (Leave Evil Dick out of it) Most are about $6 each. 5th (Marty)
Marty- I made the mistake of buying a 10pk of scottys whent I first started trolling. If I used mono, I would use the scottys. But now the scottys are on the reserve list and only come out when all of the carabiners are gone (rare). Not to mention when you are trolling 14 lines on the boards and plan on having a good day of fishin' you'd need + / - 40 scottys x $6 a piece = $240?????

I never had much luck with the scotty clips with braid, They never wanted to hold the line over waves. I use ****** clips and rubber bands and they work just fine.
If you set the scotty to the tighter setting, you wont have a problem. I have had a 44 inch fish struggle to pop free of a scotty clip...I had to move all mine back to the looser setting, even with braid. Have had more problems with rubber bands slipping due to sloppy knots of sloppy crew than with scottys!

Most of my lines are braid (80 lb) and scotties work fine. I do use to tightest setting and will sink the braid deep if the waves make it necessary. Most days, I sink the braid half way and it's great. I use rubberbands after I run out of clips. Thanks to Skip, I double knot the bands and they work ok for me also. When I put out my spread, I usually do one side of the boat while someone else does the other side. The clips seem to work better for the novice helper. I just tell them how deep to sink the line and I don't have to worry about their band knots slipping. Plus, at the end of the day, it really impresses my friends to see a bunch of clips at the end of the boards!!!!! 5th (Marty)

Marty, I think you can probably find Scotty's for between $4.00-$4.50 maybe a little cheaper at some of the shows.

I will be pricing clips at the shows. As far as carabeaners (sp) are concerned; if you get desperate during the season, you can find them at the dollar store (across from glen burnie mall) with two (and sometimes three) per pack. The only problem is often they are in different shapes. I have fish shaped ones, heart shaped ones, as well as "normal" shaped ones. You can get a bunch of ribbing when you start putting heart shaped carabeaners on your lines!!!! 5th (Marty)
