I just ordered some Food Source Carp Candy. They look mighty tasty. Wondering if anyone has tried them (for carp, not human consumption)?

Here's a link: FoodSource Carp Candy

I've tried other foodsource products and was impressed. But I prefer Gulp. The plastic worms I've used for stripers (goliath grub) was very hard and almost dried out but some other baits like their maggots worked very well for pan fish and steelhead. I'm excited about the carp baits. The Carp Candy is about the size of a nickel, much larger than I had thought, which is good.

Other baits I've used for carp with success is Magic dough being number one but I can't find it anymore. Plus corn and some concoctions I've made with vanilla extract but that stuff is expensive and the dough balls I've made with them never held together very well.

I'm on a giant school of carp near a warm water discharge that I'm eager to fish for this weekend. Problem is, there is a lot of boat traffic on the weekends there. The jet boats fly through this area spooking the carp. I tried for Smallmouth and muskie there last weekend and came up empty. So now I'm going for those nasty bottom feeders that can't fight worth a darn. :cool2:

I'm taking some kids with me this weekend to see if I can get them on the biggest fish of their lives. Looking forward to it actually, just hope my two year old doesn't want to go swimming.

Where is the huge school of carp located?!! You'd be suprised how much they fight with an arrow sticking in him! Seriously I'm waiting for the carp to start showing for the spawn not long now, but would be awesome to find a place like you're talking about if you feel like sharing!

gonna sound a bit weird, but your a carp catcher, so you'll get it...

I use WHEATIES cerial. Crush them up by hand in a mixing bowl and add a tiny amount of liquid. I use orange, grape or strawberry soda. River water will work good as well. Knead the mixture until it becomes slightly rubbery, if its to mushy, just add somemore crushed up wheaties. To put it on the hook, pinch off a dime to quarter sized piece, bury the hook it it and roll between your hands until it is slightly rounded, alomost a pecan like shape.

You can use either a treble or a single hook, and its good for several casts, but I usually change it out every 15 to 20 minutes.

Give canned sweetcorn a try, the foodsource bait looks nice but I haven't seen or heard of many people have success on it.

If possible try throwing handfuls of corn in where your hookbait is going.

Good luck, catch a monster!

I have always had good success with just plain bread balls. Take about 1/2 of the center of a soft piece of bread, ball it up nice and tight, put hook in it with the point exposed and hang on. I love the fight that Carp put up. This is all great but IMO nothing beats sticking them with an arrow. If you ever want to go shoot me a PM!!

Pimp tried to PM you and wouldn't let me!

Not trying to jack this thread guys. Pimp, where about are located? I just started bowfishing last year with a buddy and we're totally addicted! I live on the Rappahannock River just below Port Royal. We missed the Spring Spawn still ended up with some BIG gar and carp. Since we started made a deck with lights and started at night totally different game than in the daytime!!

mix biscuit and jello mix and roll into little balls. put the hook in the ball and roll it again.
