Kinda got trashed on another post because I suggested that if you are fishing inside the Bay during closed season and doing catch and release you should follow a few rules of consideration for the fishery.

I think you should replace any treble hooks with single hooks on plugs and should use circle hooks if you are eeling or bait fishing. Its just my lowly opinion that trebles rip up a fish more and J hooks do more damage to a fish especially if gut hooked.

Ran across the bay the other day and saw 3 dead 30+ inch fish floating on the surface. Pulled one and it still had a J hook down deep in it that wasn't too rusted yet. My assumption is that it was a catch and release.

If you are fishing for the sport and just want some pullage, then dont do damage to a fish you cant keep.

I saw you were picked out with the Circle hook thing. Is a good idea and some of the guys are so into the Sport they always consider the fish and then there are some that don't realize ...I would agree to be careful and make sure the fish are there for future stocks.. Circle hooks is the best answer ....
This is an old subject and if you watch the next few weeks into the Spring up in the Bay there will be more discussion about this.. .Best methed of C&R .
Nice to know that John2254 is one of the good guys that takes that extra step to keep fish healthy to be caught another day..

Thanks - I think maybe new people to Tidalfish just dont know that there is a better way to enjoy our sport without hurting the fish. It did hurt to see dead stripers floating in the Bay because of someone's carelessness.
